In New Ad, Conservative Group Doubles Down on Support for Extending Enhanced Premium Tax Credits

Spot Targets Key Republicans Lawmakers and Argues That Extending the Credits Will Help Those Who Will Be Impacted by Medicaid Reforms

WASHINGTONPlymouth Union Public (PUP) Advocacy today released a new ad urging Republican lawmakers to protect health care with a one-two punch: reforming Medicaid and extending enhanced premium tax credits that help working families pay for health insurance. PUP Advocacy’s new ad echoes a new policy memo released by an affiliate group earlier this week outlining the political risk of reforming Medicaid without a free-market alternative.

The 30-second spot, “One Two Punch,” is backed by a six-figure buy and is a part of a seven-figure overall effort to promote Trump's affordability agenda. The ad will begin airing Wednesday as the reconciliation debate heats up and will run on TV and digital platforms in Washington, D.C. It will also run on digital platforms in the home states of the following senators:

  • Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD)

  • Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV)

  • Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA)

  • Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME)

  • Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID)

  • Sen. John Curtis (R-UT)

  • Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK)

  • Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC)

The ad follows a new memo out this week from Plymouth Union Public Research, a conservative research group aligned with PUP Advocacy, that offers guidance for Congressional Republicans to utilize the reconciliation process to extend the enhanced premium tax credits for Medicaid enrollees as a free-market policy solution. The memo argues how doing so would: 1) Ensure those who need coverage and are removed from Medicaid as a result of reforms are still able to get it 2) Save taxpayers billions 3) Be critical for midterm success.

In April, PUP Advocacy launched a powerful ad urging Republicans in Congress to protect the premium tax credits so Americans don’t have to worry about affording health care.

TRANSCRIPT:

President Trump is stepping into the ring.

Fighting to preserve Medicaid for those who need it most.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: It's going to be strengthened.

But this government option doesn't work for everyone.

Americans want more choices.

Premium tax credits can help working families afford health care.

But Congress needs to act.

Extending these tax credits can save taxpayers billions while ensuring families have the health care they need.

Tell Congress, protect health care with a one two punch.

Preserve Medicaid and make premium tax credits work for more families.
